Finding ways to be environmentally conscious can be difficult in a product-driven world. And let's face it, I love products. Who doesn't?
I'm a designer, and it's my job to create, whether it's nature inspired jewelry and gifts, an urban park, or a simple stone wall in the landscape. All of these things consume resources and add permanence to the world.
The Packaging is Green
Earrings come in boxes made of 100% recycled cardboard. Beads, stones, stickers and ribbon make each box unique.
Tags and business cards are printed on 100% recycled paper.
Friends and Coworkers save small pencil boxes and other containers for me so I can re-purpose them for other items.
Products are packed with pages from old seed catalogs or with tissue paper and gift bags made from recycled paper.
And I'm working on plantable packaging designs as well.
The Profits are Green
But I want to do more. I want The Bauble Garden to have a meaning in this world that goes beyond inspiration from nature. I want the Bauble Garden to inspire the environment right back.
So I've decided to invest 3% of the Bauble Garden Profits in sustainable causes this year. I’ve chosen Global Green and The Nature Conservancy for their dedication in preserving resources and their support of innovative research in sustainable design.
The Future is Green
Three percent may not seem like a lot. But it is enough to plant a seed. And seeds grow into beautiful things. Maybe someday the Bauble Garden will be able to do even more.
We'll have to wait and see.
